I am currently working on my Interlochen Audition/interview and I was just wondering if someone could help me out with some of the past experiences they had with Interlochen.

After Financial how much did it end up costing your family?
Did you feel like the academy was worth it or do you feel like the summer sessions would be just enough?

After financial aid, we ended up paying less than half tuition. IMO, the Interlochen experience has been FANTASTIC for my D. She is inspired, improving by leaps and bounds, brimming with self-confidence, excited for her future. She is a senior, and is in the middle of auditions. Two of her auditions are right there at Interlochen. She could have done more of them there, but those were the schools on her list. She has plenty of opportunities for collaboration with other musicians and artists. She is very happy there, and has made lots of friends. There is no way we could have competed with the program opportunities there, even though she did have excellent training here where we live. Her class and performance schedule now is very similar to what she might expect in a BM program at a conservatory or top university music dept. She will be very well prepared for her college years. The administration is very good about communicating with parents, and with supporting the students. The academics are very strong as well–all the teachers are very engaging. I strongly recommend Interlochen Arts Academy–my only small regret is that my D is there senior year only. Good luck, and enjoy your visit there.

My D attended the Academy for her Junior and Senior years of high school as a Theatre Major, Class of 2009. It was the best decision we could have made for her. She was at a wonderful public school with a strong performing arts dept. and we live in a large city where there are well-qualified teachers in dance, drama, and voice. For her, Interlochen was the next needed step for growth. She thrived academically, socially, and artistically. This time last year she was doing her college auditions. She was admitted into 14 of the top vocal performance, acting, and musical theatre schools, including Pace, Webster, U. of Miami, Emerson, Oklahoma City U., Royal Scottish, Carnegie-Mellon, Fordham, Eastman, New England Conservatory, and Oberlin Conservatory. We strongly feel that her successful college auditions were a result of the excellent training she received at Interlochen. She just recently made her Off-Broadway debut and is thriving as a BFA-MT with a Dance Minor at Pace Univ. in NYC. We did not qualify for any financial aid at Interlochen but she did receive a small talent-based scholarship. She was awarded half to full tuition scholarships for academics and talent at every college to which she was accepted, so her college scholarships far outweigh the cost of attending Interlochen for two years. One of her younger siblings will be going to camp there this summer for the second year and she, too, plans to do her last two years of high school at the Academy. Hope this helps! I know it is a HUGE step!
