Intern from a CC?

Hey there.
I'm an Aerospace engineering major at my local community college. It is my 2nd year at the school, 1st year of physics. My GPA currently isn't spectacular (3.5) and I am having a very tough time with my current physics class, so it might drop even more. This worries me when it is time to transfer (still 4 semesters left, including this one). My transfer goals are UCLA/UCSD/UCI (in that order)

My question basically is: Will an internship at a major Aerospace/Mechanical engineering firm improve my "chances" at transferring? If so, is it possible to intern at companies such as Boeing or Lockheed Martin as a community college student? I've checked their websites and they offer summer programs/internships but they say for 'current engineering students'. I am not sure if I, a community college student, qualify as an engineering student because all the classes that I am taking are the Calculus (1,2,3) differentials, linear alg. and physics (for engineers). But I won't be taking "engineering" courses, as opposed to someone at a university would.

So again my question is, as a community college student taking physics 101, is it possible to get an internship (paid/unpaid, doesn't matter) at major companies such as Boeing/LM? And will that help my chances of being able to transfer to my desired schools?

Thank you!

First of all, these top employers don’t take unpaid interns (to maintain their prestige as well as due to labor laws). And unless you have connections, it will be hard simply because you are competing against students from universities (like Berkeley) who have taken Engineering courses. You might as well apply but don’t expect too much. And doing an internship won’t necessarily improve your transfer chances that much.

Your GPA is 3.5. You are practically set for UCSD and UCI and if you raise it a bit (maybe to 3.75) you have a solid shot at UCLA. UC’s aren’t too selective for CCC transfers.
