Intern from a CC?

<p>Hey there.
I'm an Aerospace engineering major at my local community college. It is my 2nd year at the school, 1st year of physics. My GPA currently isn't spectacular (3.5) and I am having a very tough time with my current physics class, so it might drop even more. This worries me when it is time to transfer (still 4 semesters left, including this one). My transfer goals are UCLA/UCSD/UCI (in that order)</p>

<p>My question basically is: Will an internship at a major Aerospace/Mechanical engineering firm improve my "chances" at transferring? If so, is it possible to intern at companies such as Boeing or Lockheed Martin as a community college student? I've checked their websites and they offer summer programs/internships but they say for 'current engineering students'. I am not sure if I, a community college student, qualify as an engineering student because all the classes that I am taking are the Calculus (1,2,3) differentials, linear alg. and physics (for engineers). But I won't be taking "engineering" courses, as opposed to someone at a university would. </p>

<p>So again my question is, as a community college student taking physics 101, is it possible to get an internship (paid/unpaid, doesn't matter) at major companies such as Boeing/LM? And will that help my chances of being able to transfer to my desired schools? </p>

<p>it will definately help your chances of getting accepted because its probably gonna be fairly difficult for you to get and internship from the companies you listed. however that doesnt mean you shouldnt try.</p>

<p>my gf got an internship with JPL while she was at a CC. talk to your profs and see if they know any people that know people. that is how she got her internship is through prof recommendations and applying and eventually getting it. :)</p>
