I’ve decided to apply to COM because, as of now, I’m seriously considering a career in PR and I know BU is a great school for it. However, I’m very prone to changing my mind and am not 100% sure that I would want to major in PR, though I’m leaning towards it. If I were to attend BU, would an internal transfer between COM and CAS be extremely difficult? Is it even possible? Thanks!

No, it wouldn't be difficult. Some students enroll in both CAS and COM and earn dual degrees (called BUCOP). My S is doing this-- BA in political science from CAS and B.S. in communications (public relations) from COM. Check the BU website for more information.

My advice would be to try COM first, and see how you like it rather than CAS first. It's easier to transition (requirements-wise) to CAS since it's more of a general focus and COM is more specific

A transfer between COM and CAS shouldn't be difficult, especially if you do it early.

I think that for your first semester at BU, it shouldn't matter too much. All freshman in COM are required to take COM 101 their first semester and aren't allowed to take any other COM classes that semester. So if you enter as a COM freshman, you will be taking that one COM class and no other COM classes that first semester.

However, I'm pretty sure (you can call COM student services and double-check on this) that if you transfer into COM from another school at BU, you aren't required to take the COM 101 class. So even if you enter CAS as a freshman and decide to transfer into COM for your second semester, you won't be behind on any requirements.

Even if you decided to transfer into COM for the first semester of your sophomore year, just remember that COM freshmen are only allowed to take one COM class per semester in their freshman year. So you'll only be behind on one COM class, and that shouldn't be a big deal to fit into your schedule.
