I’ve been thinking that I would apply to BU Comm for Public Relations. But I also would like to major in something else in Arts & Sciences. I know that’s possible, but does it make declaring a double major difficult? Also, if I decided PR wasn’t what I wanted to major in, would it be exceptionally difficult to transfer between colleges? Thanks so much!

I'm also a PR major in COM. If you also wanted to major in something in CAS, you'd actually be earning 2 degrees--1 from COM and 1 from CAS--it's not just a double major. You also have to satisfy the required courses of each college, so make sure to plan out your courses.

Also, about transferring between different colleges...it depends on which one you're transferring to and when. If you do it early (freshman/soph year), from what I've seen with most people, it should be fine. And transferring from, say, COM to CAS is relatively easy as well because as a freshman in COM, you're only allowed to take 1 COM class each semester, so the rest of your classes will already be liberal arts classes, so it's not like you spend a year taking all COM classes and then you have to switch over to liberal arts.

My S is getting a CAS degree in political science and COM degree in public relations. Strawberry is correct, it's not a double major, it's a dual degree program. He started as a CAS poli sci major and then decided he wanted to work in political communications. S placed out of several poli sci courses due to AP credit which was useful because he needed so many COM classes. Still he is finishing both degrees in 3-1/2 years. So it can be done in 4 years.
