Hi, I was just wondering if it's true that internal transfers to Stern is hard? Can anyone give me some stats on how many successfully transferred? Thanks!

Anyone? :(

Hint: posting twice in less than twenty-four hours makes people not like you.

Getting into Stern is difficult, so it follows that transferring to Stern would be difficult too. Just look around for average statistics, etc. And I doubt anyone keeps track of how many students transfer to Stern, but again, just do some google stalking and you should find at least some helpful information.

Um…geez, I was just trying to make this thread noticeable to people and not fall inactive to the next page…
But thanks anyway.

Try the search tab at the top of this forum page and look at these threads:

Transfer to Stern from NYU

Internal Transfer from Gallatin to Stern

The first has a post stating that internal transfers are more difficult than applying to
Stern as a freshman and you may need a GPA of 3.8+.

However, in the second thread, one person noted that internal transfer to Stern is
Not nearly as difficult as the first thread implies.

Read these threads for yourself.

Thanks. I searched already and for some reason they didn’t come up. I also saw the Stern FAQs on the front page, but it didn’t give as much info as i wanted. Hence the creation of this thread.

Hi, I see that you are right and one of the two threads I mentioned above does not come up when you are searching threads. The second “Internal Transfer from Gallatin to Stern” does come up when you check either “Show Threads” or “Show Posts.” Specifically, read the post by Scary2Hairy in the “Internal Transfer from Gallatin to Stern.”

Here is a copy and paste from a poster above regarding transfer from CAS to Stern, same gist as the thread I referred you to above, “Transfer to Stern from NYU” (which I can’t seem to find anymore).

“My friend (evidently a student in the NYU Liberal Studies Program) is in the exact same position as you. He contacted NYU and the response was that he wasn’t guaranteed transfer to Stern, but he could go into CAS, which he is guaranteed to be accepted to if he maintains a B average, and then apply for a Stern transfer. Apparantly he has to have at least a 3.8+ GPA to be considered for the CAS to Stern transfer.”

Please note the insert in parentheses is mine. The above quote with the mention of a 3.8+ GPA for internal transfer into Stern has been made by two different posters. Note, however, that the second thread I referred you to has a post that indicates internal transfer to Stern might not be as difficult as some think.

Though I am inclined to believe that internal transfers to Stern from the other NYU schools have to jump a very high bar, even if the GPA of 3.8+ is not necessarily true for every internal transfer to Stern.

I can corroborate that it’s not as hard as people (usuallly Sternies) make it out to be. With a 3.8+ and appropriate math and economics courses already taken, you should be okay.

Thanks guys! :)

take everything posted on this forum with a grain of salt obviously
