Internally transferring to Gallatin

I was recently accepted into the Silver School of Social Work but I would like to transfer into Gallatin after a year of classes. How competitive is it to internally transfer into gallatin from another college within NYU. I would like to create an interdisciplinary major in comedy and take advantage of all the comedy classes the NYU offers.

From what I have heard, internal transfers are extremely hard, but not impossible. You can transfer. Just make sure that your gpa is really high and that you write really good essays. Good luck

You’re kidding me, right? That really stinks. Any students who go to NYU?

BUMP, People I really need more information,

Internal transfers are only difficult into Stern and Recorded Music. Everything else isn’t all that challenging, as long as you have a compelling reason for needing to be in that school

Are you sure?

So with a 3.6 gpa, possibly taking comedy classes before transferring, and strong ECs that are related, internally transferring would not be hard?

Nah, not to Gallatin

@jazzcatastrophe‌ What percent of transfer applicants do you think are accepted to Gallatin from within the university?

Also, if anyone else is reading this thread, I would really appreciate if you could give your input on the difficulty of internally transferring to Gallatin.

Numbers-wise I have no idea, but everyone I know who wanted to transfer to Gallatin internally got in, and they weren’t especially great students

I transfered to Gallatin after my freshman year with a 3.0 and got in (internally) from steinhardt.

Was there anything unusual about your app that might have helped?

Does anybody know if a 3.5, relevant ECs, and no red flags would basically be an automatic in for Gallatin?

@PSC2IVY from what I know…Gallatin accepts approx 250 students for their freshmen class per year. Last years accepted class was
240 students. There is about 1500 students in a Gallatin as a whole, so there are a number of students that do internal transfers. It would be a good guess to say they do look at the student as a whole package. You are very independent so you must be disciplined with your work and create your own concentration. While you do have assistance from an adviser, there is not a lot of hand-holding. I would say Gallatin looks at GPA, writing skills, drive, and the reason for wanting to be in Gallatin. It’s definitely not easy, especially if you are a high achiever but it is an excellent program! It will provide for quite an interesting interview story when you meet with potential employers!
