International Acceptances?

Oh, you're majoring in engineering too??
My first choice is Engineering Aerospace! :)

Congratulations on your acceptance to Carleton University!!
Ya same here, i don't want to make any decisions yet either...

All the other universities I was accepted to say that i must register by May 1st so i hope UT lets me know the result by then...

anyway, it's good to know that i'm not the only one still waiting.
So thanks :)
I hope you get into U of T too!!

Hi...I'm an international student in China XD
Was accepted to U of T in Feb...but I don't know whether or not to go to Mcgill or U of T!!! Anyone has any advice? How's the reputation of U of T in the states (coz I'm planning to do my grad studies there...)?

ringocandystar> i'm majoring in civil (or is it chemical, i forgot) but i have sights on the environmental track. by the way, when did you apply (ouac) and sent them all the documents? i think engg takes loads of time. for international its rolling. the site says we'll know in 6weeks.

Orenishii>>

oh i see. ^^
um... i applied REALLY late.
like the deadline of the application for the faculty of applied science and engineering was Feb.1st, and apps for all the other faculties had to be submitted by Mar. 1st, and i had always been thinking of studying astronomy (which was due Mar. 1st) but then at the last minute i put down engineering as my first choice , and i applied on like Jan. 30th or something... i think.

and then I completed the online student profile form a few weeks before its deadline, and then my school sent the transcripts the first week of March, and they just received it a few days ago. lol

but then I applied to other school using OUAC (at the same time i applied to U of T) and i also applied to UBC like much later than that, and I already got results from those other universities...(Waterloo, Queen's, and UBC).

When did you apply???

bluetime>> congratulations! honestly speaking, i haven't heard of mcgill up until i was searching for schools. but i know it is a good school!

ringocandystar> i applied thru ouac around mid december, then got the letter from them way february so i submitted around first week of march. you got in ubc and waterloo? i was thinking of applying to those schools too. but waterloo has recommendations for transfers so that waved me off.

ringocandystar-- thanks! ya...i started the thread on mcgill vs toronto in the mcgill forum, but tbh, it didn't really help me make up my mind, lol, and perhaps even added to my indetermination haha...

orenshii-- mcgill's rep is kinda...non-existing in taiwan, where i come from and plan to work after grad school lol....are u from the US?

Are u guys planning to go to U of T? I got a 32,000 scholarship from UofAlberta yesterday...- - came at a pretty bad time since i was almost certain that U of T was the univ for me lol...but money is going to be a bit of a problem, since i have 2 siblings who are going to attend uni in 2008 &2009! *have u guys heard of the u of alberta...?

hi bluetime... congrads on the scholarship... as for u of alberta it is a fairly good school. i would suggest you check out the macleans university rankings. they list all canadian schools and list them from the top to the bottom.

bluetime

i highly reccomend that you go to toronto, or mcgill over alberta

even if money is a problem
do whatever you can to go to them

i live in california, and ive never even heard a thing about U of alberta.
im pretty sure its not world renouned at all

and u will definately get a much better education at u of t or mcGill.

bluetime213>> wow! congrats on the huge money alberta is giving you! i have a pending application there. heheh! i haven't sent in my course descriptions and transcripts yet. how fast do they give decisions? nope, i;m not american. i'm from the philippines. ni hao ma? (i'm studying mandarin right now.hehehe.)

i think alberta is good in engineering programs directed to the petroleum industry.

Bigtwix--since u live in california, could u give me ur opinion on the reputation of mcgill and utoronto?

Thanks guys..but I'm not planning to go to alberta XP i looked in some rankings of world universities, and ualberta wasn't ranked very highly...and i guess that would affect my grad applications in the US?! It IS a pretty good school though....>_< haha
So have u guys decided where ur going yet?

As a parent I would strongly advise you to look closely at that offer from UAlberta. Grad schools don;t care all that much where you went, it's yoiur grades, GRE scores, etc that will count. ANd if you want to go to grad school it would be nice to start out without debt.

Ya...it would be nice to start grad school without debt, considering how i have 2 siblings who are going to start college nxt year and the yr after tht! I've accepted UTSG though, because well...it does have a better international reputation (i'm an international student, so it kind of matters where i go for undergrad...and grad too). If things don't work out with UT though, I will go to UofA!

good choice bluetime. and spikemom, grad school is dependednt upon where you go to school. A 4.0 at some crappy state school can be easier than a 3.0 at toronto. Its not necessarily the name that is important in it self for grad school, but the know academic rigor and grade deflation that is important. There harder the school, the harder it is to get outstanding grades, and rigor is extremely important in grad school admissions.

When grad school programs say that the average undergrad acceptants gpa si a 3.5, the majority of the students come from rigorous schools, not from some crappy state school where work is a joke

Univ of Alberta is not a crappy state school, it is a respected university.

i never criticized it. I live in the US, and i was talking about crappy state schools in general, not pointing out any in specific. Im talking about state schools that nobody ever knows about outside of the state, and where a 3.5w GPA would give you like a full ride scholarship.

hello everyone!
it's been a while since i last posted on this thread, but i received an offer from UT the other day! :)
(i don't know whether i was a border line student or that they just didn't get to my apps until recently 'cuz my application status had only recently changed to "under review" before i got accepted but ya)
except i'm an IB student and so mine's still only a conditional offer...

well, i just thought i'd report my acceptance on this thread 'cuz i was simply happy about the offer :)

congrats Ringo!! don't worry about the "conditional" status, all offers are conditional until you completer your HS requirements. My DS had to take 3 AP exams before his offer was "official". Will you attend UofT?

Thank you very much!!
oh i see. well, there's nothing i can do about the IB exams now that i'm done with them. ^^
Yes, I'll attend University of Toronto since it was my first choice university afterall. :)
I'll be going to the faculty of applied science and engineering. :D

My son's acceptance didn't require that he get a particular score on his AP's , just that he take the exams. He did great on one and OK on the others. Have fun at UofT, my son loves it.

RingoCandyStar>> congrats. i'm attending engineering at UofT as well. What program are you taking again? If it's EngSci, i'll see you there.
