International Area Studies vs. International Relations

I want to take International Relations but i got accepted to Drexel University for their International Area Studies.

But is there truly a difference between the two? b/c many schools make it sound as if it is the same thing...

They’re pretty much the exact same thing. And they’re pretty much both useless majors.

^^^
What are your criteria for pretty much useless?
The Drexel program looks like it has strong options in critical foreign languages, a co-op/internship component, an option in international business, etc.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what options the undergrad degree gives you because all you’re going to have at the end of four years is a BA in a market saturated with MAs. Unless you want to go to grad school you should not study international relations/studies and expect to be able to find a job in that field. Besides that, even if you do go to grad school you probably won’t be able to find a job that you actually enjoy because all of the “good jobs” that people dream about getting in IR all get scooped up by people with political connections. Even in the private sector (should the OP choose the international business option), most people will tell you that international business is one of the weakest business areas you can choose because once again an undergrad degree doesn’t teach you nearly enough for the specialized field of international affairs.

wow, i guess i should switch my thing then… i was thinking about majoring in IR and minoring in Criminal Justice… maybe its wiser to switch it around…

yea wow i think i should switch my major too…

it wasnt actually my major but its just what i put down when i applied cuz i couldnt think of anything…

but im just curious for just generally most majors, is going to a good undergrad… like UCB… beneficial at all if ur just going to grad school in the end?

and actually after really researching international relations jobs, agc0319 seems very right
