Hi, I'm a coming freshman from China. In the enrolling book (the one I got with the admission letter), it's said that 8/25 will be the moving day. Does it matter if I arrive quite late that day (due to the flight time). And will we have anything important like the opening ceremony during that day?

And what do freshmen usually do during the 5-day orientation? Is it okay to move in during that period (not on 8/25)?

(the flight tickets in Aug to the US sell quickly so I have to book one as soon as I have the exact date)

You can arrive late. You aren’t required to move in that day; the move-ins are really the first day you can get in.

I’m not sure what international students do at orientation. Regular orientation involves some meetings and speeches, some activities and course picking stuff.

I actually misspoke above; I confused which college forum I was posting in. You don’t pick classes at UR at orientation. But move-in info was correct, which I think was your main concern.

I would email or call Admissions to let them know of late arrival. On move-in day in addition to getting settled in your dorm, you do have to go to get your photo student ID taken, there is opportunity to deal with any health center issues-especially if you need meningitis or HPV vaccine. Bookstore is open…generally freshman hall has dinner together with RA-there is the late afternoon convocation, official welcome to the school for the freshman class and during orientation week, meet with advisors and register for classes, music theory placement test for those planning to study music, activities fair, one service day for the Rochester community and more.
