Hi, I just started my junior year in high school and decided to choose the OIB program––some of my classes will be in English, and some in French. However, for some bizarre and complicated reason, at my high school, I cannot take both the OIB program and AP classes (I have already taken the AP French exam and gotten a 5 on it, and I'm planning on taking the AP U.S. History exam through tutoring and the AP English Language and Composition/AP English Literature and Composition exams).

I wanted to know whether or not colleges value the OIB option, or if they will just skip over it and look directly at AP scores?

Thank you!

Well I just typed up and erased a reply talking about our experience with IB, assuming that OIB had a similar curriculum. (Selective LACs do love IB.) But then I looked up OIB and it seems it’s not related to IB at all, is that true? In that case, unless you get some specific advice from people here, I would recommend that you just call or email the admissions departments at a few colleges that are vaguely on your radar, and ask them. We found them to be very helpful in answering things like this :)

No, the OIB option is not well-known among most American colleges, so if your goal is to apply to a prépa choose OIB but if your goal is to apply to the US go through AP. In addition, because OIB is graded so much more harshly than the regular bac and you’ll be “compared to peers”, you may even be at a disadvantage.
