international business vs. cognitive science

I was accepted to UCSD as an international business major but I’m thinking about switching to cognitive science w/ specialization in computation. I have also heard that the cog. sci. majors have similar internships as computer science majors. Is this true? And would it be a good idea to make the switch? Thank you.

It depends. It’s not just the major but the skills.

Cognitive science is an interdisciplinary field that draws from computer science, psychology, neuroscience, linguistics, and other fields. You can sort of mix and match and learn as much of each as you want, depending on your school and your interests. So a cognitive science major who was super heavy on the computer science part and learned how to code and other CS concepts might succeed in getting an internship intended for a CS major (just like an English major who learned how to code and could build apps with the best of them could succeed at that, too).

Check and see what UCSD’s cog sci requirements are, and see if you can build a curriculum that’s heavy on CS requirements.

As for whether it’s a good idea - that’s totally up to you. Do you want to study cog sci, or international business.
