Hi
I’m international IB student from Scandinavia applying to Brown (regular decision). I am predicted about 42-44 points (out of 45) on the IB Diploma.
I have taken the SAT 1 and it did not go that good. I got 550 (reading), 680 (maths), 560 (writing). I am struggling with the reading and writing parts since English is not my mother tongue…I have also taken the SAT II chemistry and got 720, I am taking the physics and maths (level 1) in December.

I know that my SATs aren’t very good, but hopefully they’ll look more at my IB scores. Do you think that SATs matter very much for international students? Should I retake?
Do you think I have any changes of getting accepted at Brown?

Are you applying for financial aid? Brown is need-aware for international students, which means they consider your financial need when deciding whether to accept you.

What??? That means that if you have an EFC of 0 you have more chances to get in? i am not international but I thought that they used the need-blind policy…

they’re need-blind for US students, need-aware for internationals.

I’m an international IB student too (feel free to chance me, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/816638-summer-programs-suspension-chances.html ).
I think that they do take SAT scores into consideration for international students. Have you taken TOEFL? Do you have English as a subject? Basically, they say that if you do better than 600 for CR (and/or W, I thiiink), you don’t have to take TOEFL and they consider your proficient. But if it’s below that and you don’t have a predicted 7 from an IB English subject, I think your mastery of the language might be called into question which I do not think they would like.
But as far as internationals and SATs go, they require them if there’s a testing center close enough. Considering that in your case there obviously is, I would say that yes, they are seriously considered. I don’t think the number of points you have will offset the weakness of your scores.
That said, they’re not that bad and I think that you should retake the SAT. I bet practice would be very useful.
