International income statements with "Dartmouth ID"?

Hello guys, I'm an international student applying ED and for financial aid this year to Dartmouth. I've read the FA requirements for international applicants on the school website (it's this one: First-Year Students), and there's this part I don't quite understand:

"Income and benefits statements from employers. [...] Please be sure that the student's name and Dartmouth ID (if applicable) appears at the top of each page submitted."

What is this Dartmouth ID that's being referred to? Is it something that only applies to returning students? Or are first-year students required to include this information in their parents' income statements as well? I'm under the impression that this is something I'll receive after submitting my Common App to Dartmouth, but some clarifications would be really nice. Thanks!

“Is it something that only applies to returning students?” Basically, yes. That’s why it says “(if applicable) …” If you don’t have one, you can’t enter it – and you don’t need to worry about it. There may be cases in which an applicant has acquired a Dartmouth ID ahead of time (I have no dea what they might be, but I can conceive of some), but, if you have never received anything from the college with a “D######” [there may be more digits at some point], don’t worry about it.

AboutTheSame: Thanks for the feedback! I haven’t submitted my CA yet (and probably isn’t going to anytime soon, it’s still pretty much a mess haha), so I can’t tell if I’m going to receive a Dartmouth ID or anything. But if I happen to have an ID and fail to include it on the income statement, the admission staff won’t reject my submissions outright, will they? Because that’s pretty scary.

No. It’s a technical thing that just makes it easy for the admissions office to link things together. Don’t ignore it when/if you get one, but don’t worry about it until then.
