Hey, I got into NYU with a 34k scholarship. However I still need 26k per year to be able to attend. I'm not eligible for private loans in the U.S. as I don't have a co signer. And I cannot take loans from my local banks 'cause the interest rate is around 15% and they are not providing me a loans of such a large magnitude. If any one has been in my situation, can you please help me out? How did you manage the finances. Please, it's urgent.!

*loan

Talk to NYU’s financial aid office. US kids are not able to get that much a year in loans either without a parent co-signer so even if you were not international, you’d have a problem. A lot of students have been in your situation. If their parents cannot come up with the money, they cannot go to that college. Your parents are primarily on the hook for this and if they cannot do it, then you cannot go.

SBI provides loan upto approx. $49,000 with 11.5% rate.

Another example of admit-deny: admit a student but deny sufficient financial aid.

Happens with US students too. NYU does not guarantee to meet need. A lot of schools would have just denied the student, but NYU gaps instead. If student and family can make it happen somehow, good for them. Otherwise, they can’t come. They build that into their admit stats. THey KNOW a certain number of kids that they gap will not be coming.

But, we also don’t know if this student actually got family EFC met or close to it and the family just can’t or won’t pay what is expected of them, given the financial info. That’s a nice sized award that was given for somen that they are admit-denying. If your family can’t meet their EFC, there isn’t much the school is likely to do.
