International Leadership for Social Impact UPenn

Hi! I was recently accepted to Julian Krinsky’s International Leadership for Social Impact program at UPenn and I didn’t see a previous thread about it. Has anyone done it that can tell me a little more about their experiences? I’m having a tough time finding reviews on it and wanted to make sure it was worth it.

Hi copp26, did you go to this program at Penn? Did you like it? Considering it for my son next summer, any details would be appreciated. Thanks, and good luck in the future.

I actually just got home from this program and absolutely loved it! It was a fairly small program (26) which was really nice because we all got to bond across the four weeks, and half of the program was international. I would definitely recommend it to your son, especially if he is considering pursuing foreign affairs, political science, or international business. Each week there is a different simulation, mostly related to Model UN, so your son will have an advantage if he already participates in MUN like I did (it’s definitely not a requirement thought- most kids had never done MUN before). The best part of the program for me was the Invisible Issues NGO project. Over the 4 weeks you work in teams to create an organization to help resolve an invisible issue somewhere in the world, and on the last day you do a formal grant application and presentation. The winning group receives $500 to start their organization, and since my group won, I can now say that I am the founder of a real organization and can continue growing it. Overall, this program was an incredible experience that taught me really valuable leadership and communication skills that I will definitely use in the future!
