Sending recommendations to three of my EA colleges costs me $25. In addition, these are supplemental letters (coleges have allowed me to submit a 3rd recc). Thus, I was wondering if it is ok to e-mail an admission officer/office and ask if my recommender can e-mail the recc from his e-mail address. In addition, I am not sure if there would be a signature but rather he would write something like "I authorize that this letter has been written by me _____" etc... So I was wondering if this is an ok thing to do or if any skepticism arises and such? Any advice is appreciated.

I do not think it's a good idea to have the letter e-mailed because the colleges know it would be easy to fake a recommendation letter through e-mail.

Since you're international, I hope that you're applying to the rare US colleges that guarantee to meet 100% of the financial need of internationals because if you're having a problem paying those $25 mailing fees, it would probably be impossible for you to afford to attend a US college that doesn't meet your financial need.

Since recommendation letters are usually written on the school letterhead and have an original signature, i doubt if they will accept an e-mail of your recommendation letter. why do you have to pay for recommendations?

They really should be comming from your school, unless your supplemental recs attest tp something you did that vas outstanding and out side of the norm, they really aren ot going to add much to your application. Only you can decide if they are worth spending the extra money for.

Ok, so if it is from i.e.--- xteacher@harvard.edu then it is official. In addition, it can be a Word document and it can have the school's letterhead (you know the logo of the school) and would that do the trick. I am saying it costs 25 bucks for stamps and all that to send it to USA. What do you think?

It's just 25 dollars... I don't see the issue. You're willing to pay for international college tuition but you're unwilling to pay for your teacher recommendation? Maybe you shouldn't be applying overseas then.

Let me clarify..I am not an international student. I am currently in my gap year but I am having an additional (3rd letter of recc) which colleges suggested I should do (after having spoken with them). I did all my high school and everything in the US.

I used registed express mail just so nothing "dissapears" and thats aroudn 22 bucks a rec/report which is making this whole excercise an expensive one ...

If my teacher prints out my recommendation and glues it into the appropriate field on the recommendation form and later signs on the first page, does he/she still have to sign the rec itself?
