International Official SAT 2013 November Discussion

oh yeah guys, I found out that the uncontroversial ones was not the answer! XD
I’ll give you guys 3 specific reasons

The guy who got 800 in CR said it was! See the last reply here:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/1157620-usa-june-2011-sat-critical-reading-thread-44.html

Why would then the passage mention about teachers self-censoring?
Self-censoring means exactally

Self-censorship: the act of censoring or classifying one’s own work (blog, book(s), film(s), or other means of expression), out of fear of, or deference to, the sensibilities of others
-from Wikipedia-

The choice was ‘chose ONLY uncontroversial ones’ XD
An extreme answer yes. you guys know…I mean how can an extreme
answer be the answer? This will be probably the first time if I’m wrong

Therefore the answer was ‘excluding their favorite literatures…I guess’
Refute this argument :T

kazteq, do you remember the question? Everyone is arguing about this but I can’t even remember the question :L

Here’s my answer:
-1 could still be a 800. The answers weren’t released yet at the time of posting so it’s not confirmed.

Librarians’ personal favorites aren’t all necessary controversial. Rejecting their favorite books is more like irrelevant than totally false.

I understood “self-censorship” in context as teachers/librarians doing the censoring themselves in the first place, instead of selecting something that’s going to get banned from higher up afterwards.

Whether “only” means that an answer choice is extreme depends on your point of view, but “only” here just refers to “not including controversial materials”.
My thought process was based more on the context.

astoria what is the question mind telling me? I am trying very hard to recall :L

That question is a line reference question: what does the author imply thingy
The line was about school teachers doing self-censoring
What did you put?

What did you guys use as prep material? What’s the best prep material out there and is the college board course worth?

All controversial…that’s the complete opposite
I mean ONLY uncontroversial is extremmmmme…that’s exactly said on the choice

Self-censorship cannot have that double meaning
It literally means censoring one’s favorite book

Yeh basically extreme answers arent the correct answers…
Not sure of considering the context…
Why then include Harry Potter in the list: the previous sentence?
Stanards of Controversial books werent included

Sorry mate I’m completely blank on this one. So frustrated. For the other question, is the answer “it is easier to teach adults, not children” ?

Yes that’s correct and what I got wrong damn
Hey what did you pick for the first question for oral gossip?
To explain the general theory? You know…refering to some kind of a person’s review

^ something along the lines that children are influenced more easily than adults and so need filtering, but the boundaries are not easily defined

Can someone tell me the easier to teach adults question.

I picked complexity of gossip. You?

That’s the question for why Drudge’s review was explained…

What’s the question again? :L

Hmm well. I dont seem to remember. Was there any option like ‘over emphasis’

@kazteq
CB isn’t always that specific, even though the dictionary meaning might be. Analyzing backfired on me on another passage, so I think the word is fine.

Even one controversial book could create a lot of trouble, no matter how safe all the other ones are. It’s like tainting the entire “batch”, thus the “only”.
Sorry that I can’t clarify the exact relationship between opposites - all/ some / only - to make it more convincing.
That’s all I’ve got.

@Wharton not sure about the questions either, I only remember the answers. Some were probably (line reference) implies…

Well i thinkthe asnwer for that is ‘to explain a prominent theory’

What was the exteme question again?

Chose prominent theory as well.

Astoria…I’m not sure if this guy called GoodScores’s answers are all right
But he put other answer for the melancholy one for the indian girl: transition of the passage
I SAID PROMPT INTERROGATION…

And that means he probably got something wrong
Between melancholy and self-censuring

Possibly hehe from my speculation, uncontroversial one can be wrong
