International Relations and Law

Hi guys :) i just wanted to ask:

At Georgetown, they offer Pre-law as a concentration, meaning you get a major and do pre-law as an additional set of courses. i want to go into diplomacy/foreign policy/international relations, so I'm wondering if it's worth it to go to law school, meaning i would complete the pre-law concentration, with a major in International Politics, probably, at the Georgetown School of Foreign Service. i feel like law school is a sort of foundation that i may need to achieve before getting a job in government. thanks guys :)

You sound like you have a pretty good idea where you want to be in 10 years for someone just starting! That being said - you might want to review the different types of law. If you’re considering international law - then GT-SFS is a great choice. If you’re not sure - then the general college of arts and sciences might be better - e.g. political science undergraduate major.

As an aside - getting into GT is difficult and SFS is even more competitive (mainly due to the smaller #'s they accept).

Don’t want to discourage - this track is exactly what my son is doing!!!
