international law

Hello
I am a high school junior interested in international law as a career. Not diplomacy or foreign service, but an international lawyer. I know that diplomats are supposed to major in IR, but I would prefer to be a lawyer. Which majors should I consider?
Also, whichever majors are reccomended, which schools have strong programs in these areas? (Excluding the Ivies which are too selective)

International law is more of a graduate specialty. You can major in IR at the undergrad level and apply to law schools with great international law programs. I'm not an expert in the law programs at GW, but I can definitely speak for the undergrad programs in the Elliott School of International Affairs at the George Washington University. Here's the website: http://www.gwu.edu/~elliott.

Yeah, I would second that. Do IR undergrad and then go to law school.

That is the coolest anagram of all time.
(Is that an anagram? I dont reallly know what it means)

Assuming that by "international law" you mean the area of law that involves international treaties and such, as opposed to, say intnerational business law, then appropriate majors would be IR, political science, history (with a concentration on non-U.S. history) and possibly sociology. These would give you some background that, coupled with law school courses, would provide perpective on the factual issues involved in international law issues.

Oh yes, also take three years or more of a language.

Hey, I want to do this field too so maybe I can give you a lil' advice. Go to a good undergrad school and major in IR, PolySci, and get some language experiance. Then go to Gtown, Columbia, Virginia, Harvard, American, or George Washington (In no order) for law school because they are the best in International Law. You can also co-op your J.D. with an M.A. in International Relations. Don't go to Woody Woo at Pton because that is more Public Affairs. If you, like me, want to go to International Law your best bet is D.C. or NYC. Hope that helps. Any mroe advice ask me.
