International Relations major

Smith is one of my top choices for college. However, I know they don’t have an International Relations major (I am thinking about majoring in both International Relations and Women, Gender and Sexuality studies), but it is possible to major in one of the other 5 colleges if you get in, right? Could someone explain more about that? (and how easy it is to get to other campuses if you are taking most of your classes there?) Should I apply to Smith or maybe apply to Mount Holyoke (it has a very strong IR program)?

Thank you in advance!

Hi! Smith Class of 2022 here! I was also interested in IR and was disappointed that Smith didn’t have an IR major, but you can look into some of their other departments, such as government. When I visited for accepted students day, there were several gov classes that had an international focus. Personally, I sat in on a class called Elections Around the World- it was amazing and just from sitting in on one class, I knew so much when the French and UK elections rolled around! I definitely suggest you look into it, along with sociology and the other aspects of IR that you’re intrigued by. Smith does offer a five-college certificate in International Relations, so if you don’t mind taking classes off-campus, it’s definitely an option! You can find the details and requirements on their website I believe.

Also, I’d recommend applying to BOTH Smith and Mount Holyoke! I was accepted to both, but Smith offered a bit more aid
