Hi, does anyone know what would be good to major in if I want to focus in international relations? There is no IR major, but I was wondering if there is any sort of focus or blend of economics, govt, history, and languages in any particular major, or if you can construct something similar to an IR major. Thanks.

yeah i had the exact same question!

I heard its really good, focuses on mostly asian contries though

I think something that fits pretty well is Political Economies of Industrialized Societies. It is almost as if your description of what would be a good description for the major.

Here are the 4 I would recommend looking at:
Political Economies of Industrialized Societies (PEIS): L&S Major - Political Economy of Industrial Societies
Development Studies: L&S Major - Development Studies
Political Science: L&S Major - Political Science
Economics: L&S Major - Economics

And PEIS is part of the International and Area studies department.

i got in for political science. is it easy to switch to Political Economies of Industrialized Societies? they're both within L&S so i would think its pretty easy since they're closely related.

Yeah, it would be relatively easy to switch. Also, if you decide to switch, there is no need to rush to switch so don't be worried about it.

Cool, thanks for the advice.

is it possible to switch from political science to political economies of industrialized societies right now? before school starts? i hear L&S majors are not impacted.

As long as you are in L&S, it does not really matter what major you are in for now. Being a poli sci major won't hinder your progress towards a PEIS degree so there is no need to rush for change. Just talk to advisers from both departments your 1st semester and fill out the necessary forms.

Some L&S majors are impacted.
