What kind of jobs can you have with a major in International Relations?

gov't jobs, helping non-for profit organizations, banks etc...

You could do what I want to do and work for the State Department in the Foreign Service. That's what I want to do!

What kinds of work do you do? Is it boring? Do you travel a lot?

For the State Department? Heck no it's not boring! And yes, you trave alot. There are different fields of work you can go into with the Foreign Service. For instance, you can be involved with govt funded humanitarian operations in an overseas nation, you can be involved in public diplomacy (what I want to do) where you represent America's policies to the people of another nation and to their business, you can assist American citizens who are overseas with passport issues, you can do all sorts of things. You should check out their website though for more info. Yes, you do go overseas--In fact, I think the statistic is like 90% of entry level positions are stationed overseas. You could be sent anywhere, and you have little choice about it (Though if you had children they wouldn't send you to Iraq, or anything quite that dangerous). You can take your family with you and they give you a housing allowance in addition to your salary. The salary for a starting level position is usually around 38,000 for someone with a bachelor's degree and if you have a master's degree or doctorate the salary range is between 45-55,000 starting. It's a government job so the benefits are very good. You get health insurance, death benefits (yikes!), life insurance, a retirement savings plan, guaranteed vacation days, free medical care at government facilities overseas... And hazard pay for certain nations. They also pay off up to $3,000 worth of student loans each year!!!
