International requiring loads of Fin Aid; Semifinalist in Richmond Scholars; Acceptance Chances?

I am an international requiring almost a full ride. I've been selected as a semifinalist in the Richmond Scholars Program. From what I've heard, US semifinalists are almost guaranteed acceptances provided something catastrophic doesn't occur to their performance. But I'm an international and requiring loads of FA at that. So, what do you think my chances of acceptance are, if I don't get selected for the Richmond Scholars Program?
SAT-2320 (single taking)
Subject Tests-800 in Math2,chem, physics(I sent them with the SAT scores)
Essays- good but not extraordinary in any way
Recs- Counselor one is the generic one my school sends to all applicants(We don't have any control over that because school is not very familiar with US application process) and Teacher recommendation is very good.

If you don’t make finals for scholars, i’d say chances are you would be accepted, however, U of R is need aware for internationals. They have been known to make international students prove they have the funds to attend before accepting them. If you make finals, but are not chosen as a scholar, you automatically are accepted and receive a presidential scholarship, which is 1/3 tuition. Last year there were more than 4,900 students who applied by the deadline, 425 semifinalists, approx 100 finalists, and approx 60 awarded scholars (55 attended). Good luck!

" They have been known to make international students prove they have the funds to attend before accepting them."
Well, that basically is a denial for me, I suppose. Does that mean there’s no way Richmond meets the need of international students not qualifying for the Richmond Scholarship via other funds?

I don’t think they make everyone prove - it depends on the student I think. I don’t know that much about the international side, since I’m from the US. I would assume it depends on how much they want you and how much aid they’ve already given out. They still meet 100% of calculated demonstrated need if accepted (I think this is why they’ll ask before accepting, to make sure they have enough funds).

@cauldroncastle‌ , see below from UR’s website, about financial aid for international students. Since the average aid for admitted international students, which includes both need based and merit aid, is very high: $45,530, the fact that you need substantial aid to attend certainly does not mean you will be denied admission.

Since you are already a Richmond Scholar semi-finalist, UR has already indicated their interest in you. As @guinieagirl96 points out, being need-aware allows UR to target their funds on the international students that they really want to attend, so while there are no guarantees for international students, I certainly think you have a good shot at both being admitted and receiving the substantial aid you need.

<a href=“Financial Aid - University of Richmond”>Financial Aid - University of Richmond;
International Students
Need-Based Aid
Richmond is need-aware when reviewing admission applications from non-U.S. citizens. If you are admitted, we will meet 100% of demonstrated eligibility for all admitted students. The average financial aid award (need-based, merit, etc.) to international students in 2013-14 was $45,530.

International students who do not receive financial aid their first year will generally not be assisted in following years, unless funds permit.

Not to get off topic, but have only international students been notified for Richmond scholars? Did you find out by email or mail?

@ninadasiy‌ No, notifications are sent out in batches, with all sent out by end of january (note: you are NOT notified if you do not qualify). It has to do with when the application is received and reviewed, not whether you are international or not. Notification is by email.

As @guineagirl96‌ said, I got notified by email (on 20th Dec).

This was helpful. Although @cauldroncastle has better stats than I do (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/international-students/1732852-non-traditional-international-applicant.html#latest). Do I stand a chance?
