hey! I had been chosen as the Semifinalist for Richmond Scholarship but was rejected in the final stage. The scholarship shortlist was informed to me around early February. I am an International student and have applied for a high amount of financial aid (almost 90%). Does getting shortlisted for that scholarship by any chance mean I have a good chance of being offered a place for admissions even if I did not receive the scholarship? Or, should I just give up hope
If you need a great deal of aid why would it matter? If you get admitted and you can’t pay for it then it does you no good.
From Richmond’s website:
“Richmond is need-aware when reviewing admission applications from non-U.S. citizens. If you are admitted, we will meet 100% of demonstrated eligibility for all admitted students. The average financial aid award (need-based, merit, etc.) to international students in 2015-16 was $41,000.”
Also, international students are eligible for merit-based aid as well.
Good luck!
Were you a scholar finalist?
@guineagirl96 Hi. No, I was a semifinalist. I was not selected as a finalist.
You have an excellent shot at admissions (vary rarely are semi-finalists not admitted), but as mentioned above, UR is need-aware for internationals.
@guineagirl96 Yes that is what I am worried about. I might be rejected if they are unable to meet my financial need since they promise to meet 100% demonstrated need of all accepted students.
@guineagirl96 Do your chances of acceptance go up the less financial aid you need?
