Hi, i was just wondering...what are the advantages of joining the IRC??
and what are the chances of an American getting in versus an international...like if im both..which one should i put??
Thanks! :)

IRC = communal kitchen, air conditioning, meet a variety of people from other cultures, get to know other years as opposed to just first years, close to Mem Gym.

However, for old and new dorms = close to Ohill, close to AFC, closer to classes (depends on which new dorm you're in though), making friends with peers in similar oh-em-gee-it's-college mode, dorm sings!

I don't think there's a difference in chance unless you are in state. If you are, why on earth wouldn't you put it down?

Yeah, I really want to do IRC too. I hear they're always looking for more American students.

IRC doesn't have A/C..does it?...well gwathmey doesn't and that's where most first years go anyway...right?

Hmm, I'm not sure if they all have A/C, when I visited my friend once she did have A/C. But.. she wasn't in Gwathmey.

but they'll never give freshmen A/C rooms right?? :o

Whether freshmen (first years) get A/C or not depends on whether you put hall/suite styled for housing.
If you get suite-styled, you will not have A/C. If you choose hall styled then the only dorms in which you will get A/C are malone/weedon or cauthen/woody (new dorms). As far as I know, you can only pull hall/suite as your preference in the housing selection. I am not too sure about residential colleges.
As per the housing website University of Virginia - Housing Division :: International Residential College IRC does not have AC.
