Upps, international studEnt…
As an international (Swedish girl… ) applying for college (fall 2007) I have some really basic questions…
What’s the social (party…) scene and people at Amherst like? My current school (to which you have to apply), is one of Sweden’s absolute top high schools (prestigious), but still the people are cool and relatively laid-back, partying (what about the alcohol policy?) all weekend, keeping up with their athletics etc. The academics are extremely tough, but even if procrastinating is common, everyone seems to pull it all together, making straight As in the end. I’m looking for a similar school with a similar student body and atmosphere (people who study but know how to have fun (party))… Is Amherst right for me or should I consider some other school? I most likely want to attend a liberal arts college, and besides Amherst I’ve been thinking of Colgate, Bowdoin, Colby, Hamilton, Middlebury, Davidson, Wake Forest, to mention a few. I’m visiting America in a few weeks from now, however it would be great if a few of you could give me your own and the general opinion of every school.
Thanks guys…

Your school could not be more similar to Amherst. We work hard, play hard and still manage to look good in class the next morning. Some of our parties are good and some are so-so. Everyone seems to be laid back but I imagine that we do get a few neurotic grade-obsessed people but be that as it may, I'm sure that we have a few of those everywhere.

And and btw, I'm from Nigeria, so I'm international as well. I'm loving everyday at Amherst. This place rocks!!!

Switch what's up? You are very lucky to have the opportunity to party hard. Here I am working hard and sleeping at home during the weekends due to exhaustion.

The administration at Amherst has a fairly liberal alcohol policy.
