I am undergraduate international student ( biochemistry major ) and want to apply for a US Med School. I heard it is harder for international students to get in a US Med School. Someone says the reason is money (app 240k). Is that the only reason why is harder or there is something else? Also if the money is issue can international student get some scholarship or financial aid? I have already looked a lot about my situation and I am doing my best to be unique (3.8 GPA, tennis team member, math and chem tutor, RA in school and research assistant at hospital). I know for me in order to get loan I have to find a US co-signer. I have started studying for MCAT a year before exam and I am really taking it seriously. Please help.

Thanks!

From what I’ve heard, there’s practically a 0% chance of an international getting into an American MD program.

^ that is an obscure statement to make…especially if you are advising this to someone who has their heart set on something (although I would wholly advise you do seek a beneficial major that you can have as an alternative). International students do get in to med schools but the percentage rate is usually 1-2%…which is really low. Most of these schools require you to deposit either first year tuition flat or all four. One advise i will give is not to apply to public schools and waste your money. They don’t accept international students and even if they do allow it, they will at times feel that they don’t need any international students for the specific year. That is why at some med schools, there might be statistics of 2 admitted one year and none the following year. It can be hard but there are a handful of schools out there that accept 8-16 students some years.

Curius question : where are you applying from ??
