I live in Serbia and I would like to apply for a phd program in USA. I'm a junior now, so I still have time to think and try to improve some things. I'm studying at the Electrical Engineering University, departmant of Automatics, where I took some biomed courses. I would like a degree in biomed, but... I didn't have any biology and chemistry courses, it's all more tech than science oriented, the only biology I have is this term, principles of biomed engineering.
I'm also thinking of taking some biology courses at another faculty, but I'm not sure if that is at all possible, so I'm not sure whether to go trough all that trouble or not?

Can anyone recommand some schools for me?
Which GRE subject test am I supposed to take? What kind of questions to expect?

I am also quite puzzled about the admission process..
What are they looking for in an international applicant and how can I show them that I'm any good?

The thing is, I'm attending a really good school here in Serbia, but I really don't think admission officers know anytihing about what kind of school that is. Grades are from 5 to 10, 5 is fail and others are a pass.. My gpa is over 9, hopefully about 9.3, 9.4, at the time of applying. That is a great gpa over here, but I'm simply not sure if it sounds that good seeing that all people from usa applying have over 3.5/4.

I haven't done any research yet :( hopefully I will start this semester.. it's impossible to do a research before your junior year, not to mention publishing anything..
I've been a senior assistant for two courses during my sophomore year.. this year I'm doing my intership in Microsoft but it's nothing really challenging.

I'm involved with an euroopean union of students of electronical engineering, organized many events for them, international ones also, but they are more soft-skills oriented then academic.. does that count for anything?
