[International student] Can I start my third year while I wait for my US transfer offers?

I’m from the Southern Hemisphere and here we start our first semester in March.
Can I start my third year semester 1 while I wait for my transfer offers? Or should I not?
Is there a way for the schools to find out that I’ve started my third year? I guess I don’t want to waste time just in case my transfer doesn’t work out and I need to stay at my current college.

Aussie? In that case I guess it’s OK, but bear in mind that U.S. schools rarely take Aussie transfers because the systems are too different.
