No awards or anything outside of school:P this is what i'm worried about.
thinking of submitting a paper on North African politics to the Concord Review.. but even if i do get published might be too late even for RD
and i've been submitting stuff to places like the New Yorker and McSweeney's for the past year, but highly unlikely of course.. i just like to write.

letter of rec., should be pretty good, getting one from my TOK teacher last year and i really performed in that class, and one from my English teacher who's really strict but super smart, and has a lot of experience

i love writing so my common app essays won't suck, surely.

also, i'm Korean, and thinking of applying for financial aid.

1) should i re-take the SAT? some family members are telling me that i need a solid 2300 for Stanford
2) how much will the total lack of outside-school activities and awards hurt me?
3) should i not apply for financial aid?
4) overall chance?

thank you:)

Yes - Stanford’s SAT scores are generally ridiculously high.

It will definitely hurt, although really I see ECs and it looks like you’re passionate about writing. Stanford may not mind as much as you seem to put a lot of time into writing, which would explain your lack of other things. And plus, they’re starting to like directional talent with ECs (focus on one thing) so you’re good with that.

I don’t know - I’m unfamiliar with financial aid’s impact in international student admissions.

Reach - It’s hard to tell. ECs are good but weak for a school as selective as Stanford, especially as an international student from Europe. Your SAT score as it stands is relatively low.

so i should definitely retake the SATs. would you say my classes are hard enough?

I’m an international student too, and from what I heard this summer at a Stanford summer camp, the chances of intl students getting in with financial aid is zero : (

last year someone at the camp asked the admission officers about the statistics and they just very cleverly dodged the question. So No, I would not recommend applying with financial aid.

I think a lot of international students that really need financial aid just try Harvard, because they put Americans and Intls in the same pool for it.
