I’m in sophomore year now (first year of HS in my country) and dreaming of being at Harvard. Previous year, I’ve gotten 3.20 translated GPA, here this counts only for HS admissions and is useless if won any competitions, so I have not learned anything. I heard about possibility to attend US colleges few weeks ago and I have not chances to get very high GPA this year (sort of 3.70-3.80 if A+ is counted the same as A).
I’m starting IB next year and able to get 7, 7, 5 from HLs and 7, 7, 6 from SLs.
These vacations I’m preparing to national olympics and possibly win in one or two or them (very likely).
I’m forming a regional section of Green Party and will be a co-president in. Next year I’m going to get Business Management certificate, participate in local anti-discrimination organization, diplomacy club, school newspaper’s financial section and some volunteering.
I don’t know what with SATs, but I will study to get my best on Math II and World History on Subjects (estimated 700-800).
What are my chances to get into Ivies? Is there anything to increase them?
I don’t know how anybody can possibly make that statement before even having day 1 of an IB class.
The reality is that without SAT scores (and no, your guesses do not count), nobody can chance you with any degree of certainty. Even with top SAT/ACT scores, HYP is a crapshoot for almost everybody.
A 3.2 GPA is pretty low for Harvard, but if you could try and get that up to 3.6 - 3.7 that would be good. I myself am taking IB with 4 hl s and have gotten a 38 predicted. Your IB is predicted grade is great, but U.S. colleges put more emphasis on your SAT scores, and if you are looking to get into Harvard or any Ivy League you should aim for 2100 and up. Also, try to get into as much volunteer work as possible (100 hours plus). Lastly, get into as many EC as possible, those always help, and write stellar essays for those schools.
