International student (India) Chances at UC Berkeley, Harvard, Cornell, Yale and UPENN.

Yeah sure, I’ll chance you! But, I sent my UT Application only on Nov 30th and my SAT scores reached them only on 12th December. Also my IELTS reached them only on 15th or 17th, I guess. Btw, what do you think about UC Santa Barbara?

Santa Barbara is also a very good option because of your GPA.

Since you’re applying to UCB, I’m assuming you don’t need financial aid.

If that’s the case I think you would have a fair chance at Cornell and UCB, provided your essays are well written. Especially Cornell, since they don’t look at your writing score. Also, which college of Cornell are you applying to? Your chances at CALS would probably be a lot better than at CoE, unless your extracurriculars are focused on engineering.

For Harvard, Yale and UPenn, I’d say it’ll be pretty tough unless you can take the SAT in January and absolutely destroy it.

Also, remember that there are hundreds of competitive applicants from India (same goes for China and Korea) and a college can only accept so many applicants from one country.

Yeah, my extra-curriculars are focused a lot on Engineering. I have a decent amount of work done in Physics and Engineering, as well. Isn’t Cornell need-blind though? @burak96 I think I have decent essays as well. However, I don’t think I can take the SAT in Jan, because I would be having a bunch of important mock board exams. However, I’m taking the TOEFL in January and I’m planning to use that as an alternative to the SAT for MIT. Whatsay? What do you think about my chances at NYU, BU, UCLA, UCSB, UT-Austin, and Purdue?

Mock Boards are you a senior?

Yes, why do you ask?

Aren’t you?

Yes I am but if you are a senior, have you completed your MIT app?

Not yet! I’m wrestling with the deadline

@KrishSC Cornell is need blind, but not full need. They don’t care about how much you need when you’re accepted, but they may not give enough aid or any aid at all. I’m also applying there (CALS) and their policy is giving me a lot of anxiety. If you’re planning to study something engineering related, you’ll probably be applying to CoE. The SAT score range for CoE is pretty high as you can see here:

As for the others:

NYU: High match.
BU: Match
UCLA:Match
UCSB: Low Match
UT Austin: Low Match
Purdue: Pretty safe

These are only your chances of getting in. I can’t say anything about scholarships.

If MIT accepts the TOEFL as a substitute for the SAT, I’d say go for it.

Good Luck!

@KrishSC if you need aid you should probably forget about UC’s.

UCB - high match? (you have excellent GPA and although your SAT score is somewhat low, I’ve heard that UCB considers GPA more than test scores)
Harvard/Yale - high reach (Your SAT II and GPA are excellent but your SAT is quite low, especially when compared with other ivy league applicants)
Cornell - reach (also because of your SAT :frowning: )
UPenn - reach

Sorry but your low SAT is a sore spot for your chances :(
