You could try Berea in July. It’s a full ride and they accept one student per country. @KANIMBA01 Can you take the SAT again. Study with Khan academy.
Your sat is pretty good actually for a Rwandan applicant. But full rides are very very rare.
Did you apply to St Lawrence and Hendrix? They have a special relationship with Rwanda students.
No, I didn’t apply to hendrix and St Lawrence.
Keep the thought if need be for next year.
Hi! May I suggest using raise.me ? It is a way that students I know used their statistics and extracurricular activities to get scholarships along the way. Very helpful and students are able to see how each activity is contributing.
@KANIMBA01 Also, it’s not in the U.S., but do you know about African Leadership University, Rwanda? Their founding class started in Fall 2017 I believe, and this year they have 100 full scholarships for Africans. It’s gaining prestige fast. Schools also affiliated with ALU are the prestigious ALA in South Africa and ALC (first class started in Fall 2015) in Mauritius. It’s an amazing opportunity and a lot cheaper than U.S schools. I know students at both ALC and ALU so if you want to talk to them I’ll see what I can do.
504: raise.me doesn't work for international applicants.
I will end up looking for a school in Europe, possibly in Poland the education is good and the tuition is cheap
Gigi, I don’t know how much of a Nigerian community there is in Amherst. Wherever there are doctors in the US, there are NIgerians. I know for a fact that there are a lot of Nigerian physicians in central Connecticut, where Wesleyan is. There is a very strong Christian Nigerian community in Central Connecticut. One thing you might want to factor in, is emotional and possibly financial support from the local Nigerian community. For instance, I can bet you that if the local Nigerian community here in central Connecticut knew about you, you would be handed all the hand me down extra long dormitory bedding, and hand me down winter clothing in excellent condition, that you needed, plus an invitation to church and Sunday dinner. The parents, who worked so hard to get here and achieve, and who have already raised children here, would see themselves in you and offer help and support.
You are going to face culture shock when you arrive. Connecting to the high-achieving Nigerian professional community in central CT (and likely one in Amherst, too), would offer you invaluable assistance in adjusting.
Good luck to you! You have been given an amazing opportunity - I know you will take full advantage of it!
@gigichuck New England has small states. The driving distance between Wesleyan and Amherst is an hour and ten minutes. Amherst is about 60-70 miles due north of Wesleyan. It looks like the Nigerian American Society is in Hartford which is between Wesleyan and Amherst. Hartford is a 20 minute drive north of Wesleyan or about an hour south of Amherst. Either college, you are not very far. And certainly if you connected with the NAS, they would know about members in both areas. That is useful info. Also apparently UMass Amherst has about two dozen students from Nigeria. https://www.collegefactual.com/colleges/university-of-massachusetts-amherst/news/top-college-2018-international-nigeria/
So apparently I’m one of 30 internationals to be accepted and offered a scholarship at Wesleyan. Way to make a girl feel special, Wes
For posterity, rejected from Skidmore
@gigichuck Ten shots on goal for every one in.
I LOVE your two acceptances. I would like Wesleyan to offer you another 2-3k in aid. Amherst has an endowment (2 billion) three times that of Wesleyan so hopefully you get a cleaner full ride from them.
What about Lafayette? They started to send emails to international
You are already in great places! don’t worry about other rejections
Narrowing down! Very exciting
Just got accepted to Lafayette yay!!!
@gigichuck Congrats! Your stats?

@MYOS1634 Nothing about merit aid or financial aid in the portal yet. Financial Aid is coming tomorrow and a package should be on its way so maybe it’ll be in one of them.
