International student SAT Preparation

Hey Guys,

I'm a student from Germany and next year I want to apply to the University of Michigan. The deadline for my application is December 1st 2014. I will graduate from my school in the end of March 2014 (at least most of the studying is done then). And the last SAT test date before December 1st, is June 7th 2014. Now my question is:

Do you think that the time between my High School graduation and the Sat test date, thus about two and a half months, is a long enough preparation time for a not American student, to receive good or very good test scores?

I could possibly start learning intensively earlier, but It would be very hard and maybe even a risk because it would coincide with my preparation for my Abitur, which are very important final exams.

I know the time one has to invest varies from student to student but maybe also considering the fact, that I am not an native English speaker, do you think 2 and a half month are definitely not enough time or sufficient?

I would also like to know, if here is anyone who took the SAT and are also not native English speakers (maybe even someone German) just that I can estimate how much work they had to put in the language and especially in the writing part.

Being an international student, I would say there are 3 factors to be considered :

 1. What do you consider a good or an excellent score?
 2. What is your current level? Have you tried doing a practise test yet?
 3. How fast do you learn?

I did my first SAT in May 2013. I studied for ten days and went from a 1500 (first practice test) to 1960 on the real thing. Now I am going to do it again in December and I am already scoring 2100+ on the practice tests.

Edit : If you are wondering, English isn’t my first language … Probably why I got an awful 600 on the CR section.

Hey Ghost95,

thank you for your helpful reply.

1) I target a score of atleast 2000. 2100 would be perfect but I’m not sure in how far this is possible for me.

2) I bought the official SAT practice book, but I not yet started practicing.

3) I think I learn relatively fast.

May I ask you how good you are/were in High School? Because my grades in school are surpassing, but not outstanding. By the way, did you also take the TOEFL?
