HELP NEEDED! SAT/SAT II dates.

Hey guys, sorry for sounding so addle-brained in the topic.
I'm an international student who is from Bulgaria and hoping to go to college in the States. I've made my plan for when I'm going to take my tests:
October 2013 I'm going to take SAT I for the first time.
January 2014 I'm going to take my first SAT Subject test, and in May 2014 I'm going to take two more subject tests on the same day.
Then I was supposed to take SAT I reasoning again in June, but a slight problem came up...

I'm going to be on an international 5-day exchange from the 2nd until the 7th of June, and the 7th of June is exactly the date I was supposed to re-take my SAT I!

I want to apply early decision, particularly in Amherst/NYU Shanghai/USC (haven't decided fully yet) but I fear that if I take SAT I again October 2014, the results won't be up by the time the deadline's ended.

My first question is - so far I've gathered that as long as you're in the USA, you get your SAT test results in 19 days. How does that work if you're taking SAT internationally? Is it still 19 days? Because if so, I can probably squeeze in a SAT on October 4th, have my resulsts by the 23rd and have mailed my application by the 25th, for example. But is it longer? A month? I have a friend who took her SAT on the 1st of July and she still hasn't gotten any resulsts.

So my second question is... Can I perhaps take two SAT subject and one reasoning on the same date in May? And if I can't, how do I move my SATs around so that I can take them all without worrying my arse off? There are no dates between January and May, nor between July and October, so I am extremely confused as to what to do.

I mean, ignoring the early decision, I can probably take my SAT I for a 2nd time in October and have the results in time for regular decision, but I'm SO worried about the early decision I can't even.

Any suggestions? I can't resign from the international exchange program as it's a very important part of my extracurricular credit, and also because I've been anticipating it for nearly an year now. Which sucks is that it gets in the way of my exams!

Thanks for listening to me rant!

there’s a November, and a March date too. Take the SAT I for the second time in March, or take subject tests in March, then SAT in May

I’m aware that there’s a November date, but I’m worried the November date might be a little too late for my second try, and I’m a hundred percent sure I’m doing the first try in October.

I just checked the international dates again, there’s no date in March :frowning: You got my hopes up for a second there

You cannot take SAT1 and SAT2 on the same day, but you can take 3 SAT2 together. It is cheaper to take all 3 SAT2 in a single sitting.

I considered that as well, but to be honest I’m not that much of a learner when it comes to subject tests. Memorizing the material for all three tests at the same time would be a bit too much of a challenge for me and I’d most probably end up with low results on two out of three.

Any other suggestions that don’t come to mind, or perhaps an answer on whether the time for results is 19 days internationally as well? :/

Thanks for trying to help!

Or you could just take all your subject tests on one day…? Problem solved.

Subject tests are pretty silly (and aren’t as difficult)—I still don’t understand why they’re required. Don’t bother retaking/sitting twice for them; get them all over with in one go. Getting higher SAT I scores will probably impress colleges more.

Just take:
Oct 2013: SAT I, take 1
Jan 2014: SAT I, take 2
May 2014: SAT II, first and only time
Oct 2014: SAT I, optional third time

Also, I’m pretty sure the October exam scores will make it in time to whichever school you’re applying to if you select the score recipients when registering for the test (college websites even say not to waste money on rush reporting because they get there in time regardless).

USC does not have early action or early decision. Amherst has early decision with annual app deadline Nov 15. NYU Shanghai has early decision 1, with application deadline Nov 1, and early decision 2, with application deadline Jan 1. You can have only one pending early decision application at a time. Thus, you cannot apply early to both Amherst and NYU by their November date. You could apply early decision to Amherst, and then, if rejected, apply ED 2 at NYU.

USC recommends but does not require two SAT subject tests. Amherst requires two when you submit SAT; it takes the ACT in lieu of both SAT and SAT subject tests. There are several ways to meet NYUs test requirement for admission: (a) SAT only; or (b) ACT only; or (c) three subject tests one of which needs to be a math or science and another in literature or humanities (third one your choice of subject); or (d) three AP tests with same subject requirements as subject tests; (e) the International Baccalaureate Diploma; or (f) three IB higher-level exam scores (if you are not an IB Diploma candidate). In other words, if you have SAT you don’t need subject tests, and if you want to rely on subject tests you must submit three.

International SAT results are released the same time as domestic results. As long as you have signed up on line, you will see your results when scores are released to everyone.

Amherst for ED and NYU Shanghai for ED 1 accept through the Nov tests when applying in any given fall to get a response by mid-Dec. The application deadline is not the test date deadline. (Note there are a number of ED/EA schools that accept Nov tests but some make Oct the last possible test.) To assure Nov test gets there in time you should designate the college in your test registration as one to automatically receive scores upon release (as one of your free sends). If you do the same designation for the Oct test, it will actually get to the colleges before Nov 1.

For Math subject tests, you don’t really need to memorize any informational date. It is absolutely doable with 3 subjects including one Math.
