Halo guys, i'm 17 years old, and i'm intrested in studying undergraduate psychology in America starting the fall of 2012.
My grades are : on a scale of 4
9th grade -->3.7
10th grade-->3.0
11th grade-->3.2-3.3
12th grade-->i'm 100% sure it will be around 3.8-4.0
Until the end of summer i ll have my TOEFL
----keep in mind i wont need international student financial aid . I'm able to pay full freight!--

I was planning to study all summer for S.A.T. But i just found out that there are lots of
great universities that dont require SAT for international students.
My up to now list is :

---USA---
Ohio State University
Elon University
Loyola University Maryland
University of Miami
Northeastern University
Boston University

---CANADA---
University of Toronto
McGill University
York University
University of Western Ontario

Firstly, what do you think about this guys? do you think its a good decision not to take the SAT? How high are my acceptance chances? Please can you recommend some universities that dont require SAT for international students?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Out of topic questions : 1) I see that some schools such as Loyola University Maryland are catholic, is this going to be a problem if i'm not catholic? Is it stupid to go to a university with relligion affliation without following that relligion?
2)Regarding Grades, I read that canadian universities look mostly on 12th grade and a little bit on 11th grade while USA universities dont look 12th grade at all, and base their decision on 9,10 and 11th grade. How true is this?

All these universities require SATs plus for many US universities specially the public ones its the only way to evaluate an international candidate

Canadian Unis just require your transcripts grades and IELTS score (some may accept TOEFL idk)

If you apply to US a senior then 9th 10th 11th and the grades of last exam taken on 12th grades matter …plus if the college wants you can send a mid year report and for some schools its very important …depends from university to university

And I think its a good idea to avoid schools with religious affiliation…you could check out their websites to see the student demographics diversity etc …if a school is religiously affiliated and still takes students from other religions then I guess it wouldn’t matter anyway

Not really, Northeastern, Umiami, Loyola University Maryland and Elon University dont require SAT/ACT
-Northeastern : “For international freshman, SAT or ACT scores are optional, but recommended.”
-UMiami: “Official Test Scores: Applicants should only submit an SAT score report if they qualify for merit scholarship consideration. The minimum combined score required for scholarship consideration is 1300 (critical reading and math sections only). The SAT report is not required and should not be submitted for admission consideration from applicants who are attending schools OUTSIDE the United States.”

-Elon University: “For students whose native language or language of instruction in secondary/high school is not English: TOEFL or IELTS scores must be submitted.SAT or ACT scores are not required but highly encouraged. Students submitting SAT or ACT scores are eligible for merit-based scholarship consideration.”

-Loyola University Maryland: “Loyola University is test-optional, and does not require the submission of SAT or ACT scores for international applicants. If the applicant wishes to submit SAT or ACT scores, they should be sent on the official high school transcript or through the testing organization.”

Do you think it’s a wise idea to limit your college choices by not taking the SAT? There are plenty of SAT-optional universities, but most of them are lower-ranked universities that are not terribly popular among international students. How much do you care about reputation or the academic caliber of your classmates?

High test scores may also partially offset your mixed grade record. You might even consider taking a few SAT Subject Tests in addition to the SAT Reasoning Test to demonstrate your mastery of specific classes!

If you don’t like the format of the SAT, you could also consider taking the ACT instead. I found the ACT easier than the SAT because the verbal sections were heavier on grammer and less demanding on vocab.

I know nothing about Canadian universities, but the application deadlines for American universities are so early that many applicants don’t have 12th year grades yet. However, if you can supply them, colleges will most definitely care about them!

Thanks, you are right, i ll probably go for the SAT, but i ll think about SAT II a bit more. ACT is not available in my country, so its not an option for me

Not true, at least from what I’ve read on the ACT website. I checked your other posts and found that you’re from Greece.

Greece has the following test centers for the October 22, 2011 ACT with Writing test.
American Comm Sch of Athens (Athens)
Anatolia College (Thessaloniki)
Mandoulides Schools (Thessaloniki)

If you’re considering applying to US colleges then the SAT is a foregone conclusion. You gotta take it for your application to be accepted to most schools. It sucks, I know but at least you don’t have to take the A Levels too.
