Hello everybody..
I am currently a first-year student (with sophomore credit standing) at the isenberg school of management at the university of massachusetts amherst. i am an international student from germany. i now want to transfer and I want to apply to: Harvard, Columbia, NYU and BU. the reason why I want to transfer is a change in my major. I realize that my school has a good business program, however, I want to major in economics and political science now after having had a couple internships etc. and my school does not offer a great program in these disciplines.
i have had several internships, including one at a private bank in frankfurt and a recent one at the european parliament in brussels in the department of economical and monetary affairs, which is the main reason why I want to change my major..my special field of interest is the european free trade zone and its impact on european and non-european counries and my school does not offer faculty that have interests in that area...and the economics/political science departments are not much interrelated (unlike the majors themselves..)
i also just received an internship offer (which I accepted) from JP Morgan in London for this summer in the area of equity capital markets. i have done lots of extra curriculars, including being the captain of my basketball team in germany (top16 teams in german youth championships), being a member of the board in the youth press organization germany as well as in a political party. so i think i have it covered for internships etc...I am also a TA for a German class at my current school (I contacted the german departments at the schools which I will be applying to and theyll be happy to have me there as a TA...)
now the stats:
I did 10 years of high school in germany, and my last year as an exchange student in the US. my total GPA was a 3.6 (unweighted). I know thats not good..and my SATs were even worse: 490V, 500W, 660M, SAT2: 730 German, 630 math level 2
however, in the TOEFL i got a 107/120...and I want to mention I took the SATs after being in the US only for 1.5 months..so I dont know how heavy they should weight them.
I took 20 credits last semester at UMASS (tough classes, including teaching the german class) and got a 3.91
this semester I am taking 2 graduate level courses in finance and management and I am aiming at all As (19 credits)
I will be able to obtain two really good recommendations from professors here also...
I was wondering what you guys think my chances are at the schools that I am applying to..and should I apply for sophomore/junior standing..? I am a first year here, however have sophomore status and I am "class of 2009" but again i'm just in my second semester, just taking a heavy course load. and how heavy are the test scores taken into consideration?
Thanks!
cheers
