Is it that much harder to get into a prestigious university in the United States being an international student? International being Canada -- not so far out. :/

What are my chances for Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Princeton, UPENN, Cornell, Columbia, Rice, Berkeley, UCLA, Georgetown, UofChicago, NYU, Duke?

I will chance back.

Thanks guys!

I am really good at interviews also. That is if I even get the opportunity to do one.

Okay so I’ll reply in broken pieces because I am responding as I read your stats. The first thing I notice is your GPA. Unfortunately, it seems that it wasn’t until your Junior year that you got all A’s. Freshmen year grades are SOMETIMES “ignored” (depending on the school), but it’s less likely that they would also ignore sophomore year grades. However, looking at your test scores, you did FANTASTIC! Especially your SAT II scores. Those are going to help you a lot.

Your EC’s are great and aren’t lacking, just make sure your essays show how much work you put into those CLubs you started and how you “united” students/the community. Also, what major did you put for these schools??

Here is my biggest piece of advice, if Princeton is really on your radar, TAKE THEIR ESSAYS SO SERIOUSLY. I got deferred and I can guarantee it was because of my crappy essays. I rewrote them the night before and not once mentioned what I want to do and WHY I should be at Princeton. Their essay topics are hard because not one of them directly asks “Why Princeton” or “What will you do at Princeton”, so make sure whatever you write about SHOWS them that you are the perfect student for Princeton and not just any other school! That will help you a TON I promise.

So onto the chances finally, haha:
Harvard, Columbia, Yale, Stanford, Princeton: Reach (honestly it is a reach for anyone, it is a lot of luck)
UPENN, Cornell, Georgetown: Low Reach (you have a really good chance with these schools, just it is still a lot of luck and don’t get let down if you don’t get in, you’re an amazing student)
Rice, Berkeley, Cornell, UofChicago: Match (write good essays, can’t stress it enough, they are what separate you from every other student who got the same scores as you)
NYU, Duke, UCLA: Total Match (again, write good essays and you should definitely get in!)

GOOD LUCK!!! Can’t wait to see where you go!!

I think your stats are great and I so feel you (international too)
Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Princeton: reach (it’s all on luck)
UPENN, Cornell, Columbia: mid-reach
Rice, Berkeley, UCLA: low reach
Georgetown, UofChicago: mid reach
NYU: match
Duke: low reach
Good luck! Chance back? :slight_smile: <a href=“Chance me for Vassar I'll chance back :) - Vassar College - College Confidential Forums”>Chance me for Vassar I'll chance back :) - Vassar College - College Confidential Forums;

Penn treats Canadians (and Mexicans) different than other internationals. You may want to read up on it.

<a href=“Submit My Documents | Penn Student Registration & Financial Services| Penn Srfs”>http://www.sfs.upenn.edu/pdf/2015-16/QA-Canadian-2015-2016.pdf</a></p>

Need-blind is a good thing.

And a question - how many honors and AP courses did you take at your school compared to how many were offered? You mentioned a lot of self-study - did your high school offer the AP classes or not?

Many of these schools do not treat Canadians as “international,” but as a 51st state. American schools love Canadians. (The reverse is not always the case.)

The school offers a lot of APs and Honor courses. I don’t know what I was thinking at the start of the year, and it’s not skill level for honours or not anyone can join the class as long as you request to. I hoping to make up for this with my SAT IIs and APs?

Oops replied to wrong person. The reply was for you.

bump
