Am filling out the fin. aid application for UPenn.

Section G asks to mention any special circumstances/responsibilities. For those of you who don't know, among Indians and Pakistanis (that I know of), wedding ceremonys are a big thing...by decree, they're usually huge (I'm Sindhi so...)

My question is..is it ok if I put it down? Coz it WILL blow a hole in my family savings, esp for my sis (two of us)...or will they just disregard it as idiocy coz lotsa people get married? seriously though, we spend a hefty amount...at least 30-40 k US dollars...its sorta our custom...

and do we have to mention that the one home we own is like 'all we have in this world' et. al or do they get it?

no offense, but I hope colleges don't cut you slack for spending 30-40K on a wedding. Whether you are an international student or American citizen.

Let me think, a year or college of a 1 day event. No brainer.

Applying as international student who needs aid will affect your chances of admission.

Q. I am not a citizen of the U.S., Canada, or Mexico. Will applying for financial aid affect my chances of admission?
A. Yes. We urge you not to apply for University-sponsored financial aid if your family has the financial means to afford your
education. If your family cannot afford the total cost of Penn, then you must apply for financial aid. Please note you will be in
competition for very limited funds. In recent years, we have offered an average of 50 aid awards to admitted freshmen, and
one or two to admitted international transfer students.
Q. If I apply for financial aid as an international student, will Penn offer me admission without offering a financial aid
package?
A. No. Some candidates whom we would like to admit will be turned away because we exhaust our aid budget.

well, its not really upto me :D I get exactly what you're saying, hence the trepdiation in asking the question, but its really out of my hands...if I go and suggest this to my community I'll get kicked out for sure :D

Hmm...I know my chances would be drastically affected, esp since many people don't really understand how big a deal this is over here, but I don't really have a choice..shrugs...
