hi,
I go to school in Europe and I am from Japan.
Applied to Media and screen studies.
34/45 IB predicted and pretty good ecs, essays, and portfolio.
Did not submit my ACT or SAT.
I know that neu loves international applicant…
Good luck!
They love you if you are full pay ^^^
Hi,
I’m doing the IB with 34/45 predicted points. I live in the UAE and am from India. My essays are good and I think my recs are as well but I never got to see them. 1920 SAT applied for Econ. If they like full pay then I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Hi,
I go to a school in Europe and am from a very small and obscure country in Asia. I got 37/45 predicted points for my IB.
I got a lot of acceptances and scholarships from similar schools. But, I got denied to Northeastern.
Hi, accepted student from Poland. Honors Program with 15k merit, unfortunately this is still not enough as Polish average salary is 12k dollars a year, and even though my parents are well of, they can’t afford 54k a year at any circumstance
Quick summary of my app:
SATs 1520/1600
TOEFL 116
Subjects Math 2 790 German 750
IB predicted 43/45 [stupid Polish A costing me a perfect predicted score]
GPA - very high for Poland, 4.0 UW while spending a year in the US
Varsity Tennis, League all star in the US, politically involved in Poland, meteorology enthusiast, stock market maniac
Hi, accepted student from India
1950 SAT
good grades
good essays
Trying to decide if i should go to northeastern.
As international students, do you know how easy it is to get a co op?
I mean will visas and the fact that we arent citizens be an issue? Will we be able to get co ops?
There are some co-ops that require you to be a citizen, primarily around companies/co-ops that are part of US government contracts. However, this is a small enough percentage of co-ops (and usually primarily in engineering-related fields) that it shouldn’t dramatically impact your co-op chances. None of my international friends seemed to have trouble getting co-ops. Because it’s considered part of your educational program, you can do co-op work under your student visa. The university has that part worked out.
Foreign students need to follow both the US rules and their country rules. One of my daughter’s friends extended her 6 month co-op into 8 months and then this violated some rule so she could only do 1 more US co-op. Another friend co-oped in China and had to leave the country every 30 days (their rule). Another had more restrictions on their international co-op/study abroad for architecture. Some foreign students choose to co-op in their native country because of these rules. It can all be done - you just need to make yourself aware of all of the laws.
I am trying to decide whether or not i should go to northeastern. Im an international student and will have no credit going into my freshman year. Obviously the biggest plus of neu is their co op, but I was not sure how easy it would be for me to still graduate in 4-5 years ( one or two co-ops), without having any credit going into neu
Do you think its do-able ?
@2021advice - The base plan is that all students should be able to graduate in 5 years with 3 co-ops, with no credit coming in. This involves 7 regular semesters (spring/fall) and 2 summer half-semesters. With 1 co-op in 4 years, the class plan would be the same. It is also possible to do 4 years and 2 co-ops, but it will require more from you: either 2 more summer sessions (which would mean every summer is classes or co-op, starting after your freshman year), overloading, or taking some online classes while on co-op. It’s still possible, but requires more of you. But the good thing is, you don’t have to decide right now. None of this will affect what you do during your first year. During that time, you can meet with your advisors and figure out what seems like the best plan for you. Some majors are more strict than others with their course requirements, making it a little trickier, but all programs are designed to be done by students coming in with no credit.
I’m an international student too!
Does anyone know how competitive NEU is? I haven’t heard back from them yet and I’m so anxious.
@PixelTomato haha you again! :))
What were your stats applying to Northeastern? Maybe I can see how they compare to my situation? Also don’t worry about not hearing back yet, they have to go through thousands of applications, and it can take until june for them to actually review your app!
From what I’ve gathered, Northeastern is pretty competitive, but not super selective like other places.
@hegann00 hi! XD
My stats can be seen here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-pennsylvania/298822-who-at-cc-is-applying-to-penn-p14.html (all the way to the bottom)
Thanks for the encouragement, I just really hope that my application isnt just thrown away by admissions xD
There was a problem with my HS transcript when I sent it in, and they didn’t get it before the deadline. However, I called and asked if I could send it in after and they told me that as long as I didn’t get an email saying that my application was incomplete and they’re going to look at it.
Everything has been checked off on my application status, and I didn’t get an email so I’m assuming I’m fine?
What time did you get your decision by the way?
@PixelTomato Ok first off, and please don’t get this wrong: I have heard or read more than one admissions officer state that admissions LOVE beople from low-income/developping backgrounds, as they have it a lot more difficult focusing on academic success etc. So reading that you come from a third world country, and that you carry a lot of responsibility, makes your stats doubly impressive, and surely not just to me!
I really cannot agree at all to the fact that your call EC minimalistic either lol. I haven’t had close to your extracurricular activity, and surely not as impressive ones! If you played your cards right (yes, like mentioning you come from a difficult background), I see absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t get in! I wasn’t part of any honor societies, didn’t submit any SAT or other scores, and still got in.
I got my notice on the 21st, so a week after the deadline for submitting documents.
Just sit tight, I’m sure your acceptance notice will come soon!
@hegann00 Honestly, thank you for being so nice and supportive! Reading through all my posts must have been pretty time consuming. I really hope that I do get accepted, but my confidence has been pretty low since I got rejected from two ivies xD Thanks for the positive post and keeping my morale high! I’m hoping that they see something in me the way you did! Honestly I hope the decisions come out tomorrow…
@PixelTomato It’s no problem at all! I do think your stats sound amazing, and I hope you can get some peace of mind soon
Good luck!!
