International Students not gaining acceptance

Does anybody think that international students will have a lower chance of acceptance into BS this year? Many people believe this will happen with colleges but what about BS? There are many third-world countries that won’t get the vaccine anytime soon. And with travel bans to certain countries, some aren’t even letting citizens come to America at all, or at least without a two-week quarantine.

Can this deter the AO from wanting to accept you? I’m not an international student but the top BS are getting all-time highs in international student applications.

From what I hear via my kiddo (a tour guide) and an AO, there are many international applicants this year - more than last year. A friend who works at a boarding school in another state also tells me that their international applications are expected to be up this year based on demonstrated interest, webinars and virtual tours. I don’t think the acceptance rate (different from actually showing up on campus in Sept) of international students or chance will correlate to travel or vaccines.

@Golfgr8 But why would you accept a student if there’s a chance that they can’t show up? Some schools are already getting rid of virtual learning on campus and are switching back to in-person learning. You shouldn’t be accepted if you aren’t able to come to campus. They should really be deferring their admissions on these kids until next year - coming from three family members that went to BS.

It’s likely that schools will contract to get vaccines and expect kids to be vaccinated before they come to campus or the school will vaccinate kids. Our school already does this with flu vaccines.

Are you hoping international students will be waitlisted to make more room for you or your kid or are you merely curious? I really doubt BS will fail to admit international kids for next year based on a guessing game. They will admit and if kids cannot come they will go to a waitlist. Remember they already admit more than they can hold, knowing not every admit will attend.

I’m not exactly an IS, I’m American but I live outside the US I’m not really sure whether I am considered a domestic applicant or not. do you per chance know what category I would be put in?

Probably wherever your main address is. You might be able to bypass this if you also have an address in America and listed that as your main address.

I’m fairly sure that you are considered an applicant from whatever country you are a citizen. So if you’re Chinese but live in the UK you’re still considered a Chinese applicant. Same with the US. If you’re an American citizen but live in Portugal you’re still an American applicant, albeit one with an interesting situation.
