I’m an international student who will be attending UMich in the fall of 2016. I heard from a friend (a current international freshman at UM) that he flew to UM from China to attend one of the summer orientation programs. However, I read on the umich website that orientation is only available for international students on August 29th. Does that mean we can’t register for any of the summer orientation programs? How come my friend was able to attend one of those sessions as an international student?
I heard that classes at UM fill up pretty quickly, so I want to make sure I still get to register for the classes I want. I’m planning on making a trip to the US from China specifically just for orientation, just so that I can register for courses. Please let me know if international students can attend those summer sessions, and if not, whether classes do actually fill up so quickly that international kids don’t get a chance to register for what they want.
The main difference between international orientation and domestic one is the international office session. As they don’t expect international to travel twice, it is scheduled in the last weekend right before fall semester. I also know a few international students came for summer orientation before. They reserve some slots for later class registration. So don’t worry too much about the class scheduling.
Ahh I see! Thanks
