International Students SAT I & II results, Oct 2004

I live in Lucknow

I am applying to Williams ED

How is your resume?..you must be pretty good if you are applying to Princeton

Nopes, my applying to Princeton by no means indicates a great resume. I just love Princeton...

It's your resume that's amazing!!

what are you planning to major in?

P.S.where exactly around Delhi are you?

Well, Gandalf, did the proctor remind you to use a pencil before the test? If he didn't, it's his fault, and I think you should e-mail College Board to explain this to them, in case they nullify your test.

Actually, all he did was mumble a lot. But since everyone except me deduced that the essay should be written with a pencil, I don't think my complaint would be justified.
I really dont think it should matter...the essay is after all going to be read by people - not computers. In Barron's writing material, it is given that the essay must be written with a pen... where do you think I can find out if they'll nullify the test? Collegeboard didn't reply to the mail I sent them...

I'm going to do Economics unless I change my mind and do CS instead

I'm in Gurgaon. Did you have to come to Delhi to test? If so, what was your centre

760 m 690 v. retook in nov. prob got lower :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:
my other sat . writing 740. phy 780 chem 800 math 2 800.

princetonwannabe: if you've tried your best, then it's alright... in fact, you shouldn't have to worry... 1450 is great!

I'm impressed with you guys who pulled off 800s in writing. How did you do that? Despite ppl saying that writing is an easy SAT II, I still find it harder than the SAT I verbal! How do you write a 12-rated essay in 20 min and make less than 6 wrongs on MCs? Every tip is welcome! BTW, is Barron's writing book really easier than the real test? If so, I'm screwed.

"is Barron's writing book really easier than the real test? If so, I'm screwed."

its definitely harder, and the essay prompts in the book are way off target!!

SAT 2 stats were:
Literature - 680 (disappointing!!!)
Math 2C - 720
Writing - 780

not great, but oh well

Thanks hello, I hope it's really true!

Hi all. I'm from Romania and my scores are 720 Verbal/750 Math (dunno what happened there...got 780 in May at math, and then along came the June 750...) on the SAT I, 290 on the TOEFL and 770 Writing/780 Physics/800 Math in the October SAT II.
Hmmm....I feel like a model competing for miss Romania 2004...BTW, does anyone know what are the percentiles for?...If they compare us to the class of 2003, those percentiles are pretty useless...

They are pretty useless. They sadden me though. 700 plus scores shouldn't get 70-so percentiles I tell ya

princetonwannabe - I second what geniezclone said. 1450 is a great score and can get you into some of the best institutions is the US. For instance, a guy from our high school went to Swarthmore this year with a SAT score of 1440 (with a $32,000 aid package). Granted all his other stats were beyond superb, I still see no reason why you would think that 1450 is bad.

i think a 700+ on each section is more than enough

SAT
Verbal : 740
Math: 800
Math IIC: 790

My parents said its disgrace to get 790 on math since I am a Korean... should I retake or is it just plain dumb to do so?

Worried about MY SAT writing... gosh I lived in US for 5 years, but still me no speak no good english

Man.. gandalf don't apply to wililams.. apply to harvard or something so I can get into williams..lol.. I think Williams accepted 7 international students last year via/ early decision.. let's just see how things turn out

790 is not a disgrace - though I can understand some perfectionistic pushy parents would think so. Ever heard people say, "SAT scores aren't everything?" Well, it's true. Focus on your other life passions and put that across in you application. You could get 1600 and still be denied, so I wouldn't panic over that 1 missed question.

Gianivve,
My lifes passion is getting good SAT scoree. How do I put that in my application?

I wouldn't say that if I were you, akash...life does not revolve around the SAT's...furthermore, I know a lot of people who got in with math around 760 and Verbal around 600, because they were really good at other things.
I think the SAT I is silly. The math level tested is the equivalent of 8th grade in Romania and thus you can only do computation mistakes, which are bound to happen (at least 1-2 in 60...). As for the Verbal, I don't quite understand WHAT it tests...there's no reasoning involved there, just some practice which makes you understand the test-makers' way of thinking.
On the other the SAT II is ok, because it really tests your knowledge of the subjects.
