Is there any international student with financial needs who was accepted this year?
I'm going to apply for Fall 2013, but I'm a international student and I have financial needs, so I'd like to know how difficult it is and what stats are necessary to get in since UPenn is need-aware for international students.

My friend from BC, Canada applied ED for Engineering and got in with a nice financial aid package (~$50K)

And I know a friend three years ago got in with FA from Toronto, Canada from my school.

it is possible rest assured! As for how difficult it is, I can’t say.

It is incredibly, incredibly difficult to get into Penn with FA as an international. The possible reason that nebbalish’s friend got in is because Penn considers applicants from Canada and Mexico domestic, and Penn is need blind for domestic applicants.

@dfree124 I actually didn’t even realize Canadians were considered domestic by Penn. I just knew it was need blind for me. Ah well, better for me :)

I second dfree124. If you really want to go to Penn (or any of those non-needblind for internationals schools for that matter) and your family can afford it, don’t apply for FA. I know the Asian International competition is intense but I’m not sure about Brazil, where OP is applying from.

I got in as a Chinese International without FA with a 2330 SAT and mediocre ECs. Having high SAT scores (especially high CR scores) definitely help. Maybe consider MIT as well - it’s an excellent school that is needblind for internationals.

MIT is need blind, but the competition is just as intense- they have 4000 or so applicants with 150 available spaces.
