Hi,
I was just wondering what the composition was of international students at UR. If says on the website that 12% of students are international, which is very positive. Where are most of these students from, eg, Europe, Asia, LatAm? Are many of them US citizens who went to high school abroad? Do the international students mix well with the US kids? Thanks, Londondad
The international students really fit in well on campus. There are many in my classes and they are not treated any differently. There are definitely a lot of students from Asia, but I know quite a few from Europe too. I know students from Romania, Germany, Brazil, the Bahamas, South Africa, China, Japan, and Vietnam, among other countries.
US citizens who studied abroad are not considered international students, at least from an admissions perspective.
You can see a map of what countries are represented here:

Thanks, Guinea Girl! Just so I understand this correctly, does one dot equal one international student? E.g., there are two dots in England, so that means that there were 2 English students in last year’s freshman class, right?
It’s one marker per location. So one dot per city/town regardless of how many are from that location.
From the map: “There is only one marker per location, so this map is just representative; some of the markers represent multiple students.”
If you click on the dot, it will tell you if multiple students are enrolled from that location. I believe there’s three total from England on that map.
