Hi, I am a US Green Card holder who went to Korean Middle school and High school. So basically Korean curriculum is different. Since 3rd year in Korean middle school is considered as 9th grade in the US, I had to submit my middle school transcript. But the problem is that my 1st and 2nd year middle school grades (7th and 8th grade respectively in the US) are so bad…
I am wondering if my bad 1st and 2nd middle school grades will affect my college application or at least have a bad impression on the college admission committee.
You should only send your Korean Middle School 3rd form/“9th grade” transcripts, unless they’re all on the same document as the 1st and 2nd form transcript. US colleges only care about 9th grade and on.
In addition, your school should provide a grading scale: what percentage get a grade or score or mark of … in your school?
For instance:
75= top 5% in school
70= top 10% in school
===> due to grade deflation, both groups tend to score at the top 5% level on national exams
60= top 20%
50= top 30%
40= top 50%
30= passing, about 80% students
This is a hypothetical scale of course! But providing a scale allows the adcoms to evaluate your transcript properly, knowing what each number “means”.
