International Transfer into EECS at UCB

Hi,

I'm a current undergrad at Uni in Ireland studying Electronic and Computer Engineering in year 2.

Currently, my GPA is 3.96 (as of first year/freshman year), and I'm looking to transfer into the EECS programme at UC Berkeley.

I've read the requirements for transferring into UCs, and have also spoken to the college folks regarding my transfer credit evaluation and eligibility. Currently, I have 30 credits. I was advised by UCB to apply to the university when I was close to obtaining 60 transfer hours. Should that mean I apply right now in their Nov 1-30 application period?

Also, regarding the English critical thinking/writing/composition requirement, this is what they said -

"You must also have completed one year of college-level English that covers critical thinking/writing/composition. This can be fulfilled if you did A-level English. Otherwise, the course at Limerick must be pre-approved by our College of Letters and Science and that information is on the transfer page of the Admissions web site."

My programme at Limerick does not require me to take on any English modules. Nor have I done A-levels English (I did AS-levels in high school). Upon lots of research, I noticed my Uni doesn't have a particular course that covers all this. They do have an English Language Center, but that programme's coursework would not show up on my transcript. I don't really know how do complete this pre-req. Any advice on how to will be appreciated.

Thanks again,
Raj

Yes, apply at the start of your sophomore/second year. Make sure you’ll have 60+ credits by the end of spring semester.

As for the english classes, is it possible to ask admissions? That or pick the closest matches (english, composition, or literature courses) and email them the class descriptions, asking if they’d count for R&C.

Thanks for the reply!

Another thing - I’m more than halfway through my semester here in Uni with only 4 more teaching weeks to go, so I’m not sure if they would still accept an English course I take on now? I could manage this next semester, but then I don’t think I qualify for admission since my application is incomplete?
