UC Berkeley Transfer admission requirements

I am a Sophomore physics major at San Francisco State University, and I am hoping to transfer to UC Berkeley this coming fall. I have a will GPA between 3.7 and 4, depending on how this semester goes. I have all the basic GE requirements (critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, ect.) except for the english requirement.

I don't have this requirement because I scored a 3 of the AP english language composition test which fulfills the SF state requirements for GE english. However, my score does not fulfill any of Berkeley's english requirements.

So, what should I do? Suck it up and take both first and second year eng. comp. at SF state, or at SF city college next semester (would this even be worth it? Do I even have a chance of getting in?). Or is there some kind of exam I could take to test out of these requirements? Or should I just give up on UCB since, coming from a CSU, I have a marginal chance of getting in anyway?
Thanks for reading!

You should definitely take English. Look into taking it online to meet the deadline. You may be able to take it online self paced (aka, get your first grade before January).

If you have fulfilled the critical thinking requirement then you won’t need to take two semesters of English.

The Reading & Composition requirement is the absolute minimum eligibility requirement for transfer admission. Not having it will render you ineligible for admission consideration (your application won’t be read). So, yeah, you need to suck it up and take the classes.

But will they still consider me if I say im planning to take the English classes next semester?

You have until Spring semester to complete your GE requirements so there’s still time.

So I can take english next semester and get considered for Berkeley, or do I have to complete the requirement by January?

I HIGHLY doubt you will be accepted without the both English classes completed by the fall update.

You should aim to have the R&C requirement done by end of Fall. If you are a competitive applicant, you should be fine as long as R&C is done by the end of Spring.

just take the two english classes

Did you get into UC Berkeley? Im really hoping to transfer there too.

To answer OPs question on when the classes need to be completed, you have until the end of the Spring Semester. In your application, there will be a section for what classes you plan to take in the Spring.

Yes I did!

what was your uc transfer gpa and what ec’s did you have?! @noideawhattodo

gpa was 3.97 and for ec’s I don’t exactly remember but: I was apart of the Interact club and the CSF club at my high school, I have been doing ballet my whole life, I joined a youth ballet company, and I still volunteer for my old ballet company over the summer.
