International Transfer Student

Hey, I am currently an Egyptian freshmen at the American University in Cairo in Egypt. I am looking to transfer to the US next year but I had a few questions that I need help with. I have already e-mailed a few schools, and the schools have informed me that the university is accredited. My questions are:

  1. Although I am an International student, I am attending an accredited US university. Does this increase my chances of getting accepted into the universities as apposed to other international universities? I understand that international transfers are very hard, but isn’t that because the universities may not be accredited?
  2. How difficult would it be to receive any form of financial aid or scholarship to help pay for the tuition?

A response would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

1/ I would guess that since you’d be able to go through the same application process as a student going to an university in the States.

2/ Financial aid is always hit or miss. Some schools may be more generous than others. Getting financial or not also depends on your financial situation. If they think you can afford tuition, they will not give you anything. Public/State schools do NOT give out financial aids to international students. If you do extremely well, academically, you can always apply for a merit-based scholarship. This, you can get at largely any school regardless of its source of funding.

Yes, I assume it will be way easier. Transcripts and everything are easier and the language issue is more or less settled.
